About Anvers
Philosophy.
It has often been said that “quality starts from the ground up”. There is no more fitting statement when it comes to producing quality wines.
Wayne and Myriam Keoghan established Anvers Wines in 1998 with the objective of producing unique premium South Australian wine by focusing on quality rather than quantity.
Wayne Keoghan stands firm in the belief that grape varieties should only be sourced from their speciality regions, the locations in which the thrive.
Regions.
Adelaide Hills – Cool climate region located in the Mount Lofty ranges thirty five minutes drive from Adelaide, where the altitude is key to its climate. It is recognised for its elegant premium wines, viticulture and stunning scenery and this is the location of our Razorback Road Estate vineyard.
Langhorne Creek – East of McLaren Vale and traditionally a red wine grape region. The warm climate and cool breeze of nearby Lake Alexandrina produce outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
Winemaker
Our winemaker Kym Milne is a Master Of Wine and was named “2014 Winemaker of the Year”.
Australian born Kym Milne, MW, winemaking consultant, with a 1980 first degree in Applied Science (Oenology) from Roseworthy Agricultural College. In 1991 he entered the exacting British Master of Wine degree course and is one of a very few examinees to pass all phases of the exams at the first attempt. Kym first made a name for himself over an eight year period in New Zealand. He then spent the latter part of 1992 as a freelance contract winemaker in Hungary and France before joining UK based International Wine Services in 1993, where he was soon appointed Director of Winemaking Operations, managing winemaking projects in a dozen or more countries around the world.
After 19 years living abroad, Kym and his family returned to Australia.
Vineyards.
Anvers grapes are sourced from low-yielding vineyards in the world-renowned regions of Langhorne Creek and also from the Anvers Estate vineyard nestled near Kangarilla in the Adelaide Hills. 16 hectares have been planted with varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.
Anvers has been rated a “5 Star Winery” by James Halliday and has received excellent reviews nationally and internationally.

Golden Vineyards
The Anvers Estate vineyard is nestled at the southern end of the Adelaide Hills wine region. With its elevation and its cool climate the vineyard has become well known for its gold winning Shiraz/Cabernet and its premium Sauvignon Blanc.
In the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s the Anvers Estate vineyard was better known as belonging to the site of a gold rush. In the late 1800’s the area was subject to a flurry of activity by gold prospectors as a large section of Kangarilla was proclaimed as an alluvial goldfield. The area had three stores and a post office to cover the needs of the prospectors.
Gold was found in the Kangarilla area and it is documented that one man is said to have seen another wash a small dish of dirt and pick out a piece of rough gold fully a pennyweight. He continued to watch and saw about 20 different men washing their dirt and finding the colour of gold.
The gold rush ended in the early 20th century but part of the history is preserved with a gold mine dug into the side of the hill at the Anvers Estate providing testament to the work of an earlier time.
Anvers today is winning gold with its fruit drawn from the gold bearing soils of Kangarilla.
